Cardiac Calcification Scoring

Helping detect early-stage heart diseases in Connecticut patients

A cardiac calcium CT scan is a simple, safe and noninvasive test used to obtain information about the location and extent of calcified plaque in the coronary arteries, the vessels that supply oxygen containing blood to the heart. It is one of the most advanced methods to detect heart disease in its earliest stages.

Unfortunately, most insurance will not cover Cardiac Calcium Scoring, so you should check with your insurance carrier to determine coverage, if any. If you choose to have this exam, the exam cost is $300 but only pay $100 with our prompt payment discount. Call our insurance specialist to discuss options.

You should talk with your physician about any risk factors you might have and whether or not this test makes sense for you. If your doctor agrees that Cardiac Calcium Scoring is right for you, he/she will order the exam.

Our CT Scanner and Technologists

Licensed and experienced CT Technologists will perform your exam using our state-of the-art equipment.  Our New Toshiba Aquilion Prime CT Scanner has an 80 slice detector technology, the highest on the shoreline.  This technology provides unrivaled resolution and disease detection.  The Aquilion operates on the newest dose reduction software resulting in at least 25% less radiation, with many patient radiation exposure is decreased by 50%.

How to Prepare

For best results, avoid caffeine and smoking for four hours prior to the exam. You can complete Cardiac Calcification Score Questionnaire and screening sheet and bring it with you or our technologists will complete it with you.

What to Expect

Prior to scanning, our technologist will review your medical history.  You will be asked to fill out a Cardiac Calcification Score Questionnaire and screening sheet. You can complete this and bring it with you or our technologists will complete it with you.

You will then be asked to remove your clothing and jewelry and change into a gown. You will be positioned face up on the exam table. Electrodes will be attached to your chest and to an electrocardiograph machine that records the electrical activity of your heart. You will be asked to remain still and be given specific breathing instructions. The test is easy, quick and painless. It requires about 10 minutes’ time and you may return to normal activities following your exam.

Your Results

Your doctor(s) will receive a full detailed written report from our highly trained radiologists within one day.  We will provide you with a CD copy of your exam, for your personal records or to bring to your referring physician on your follow-up visit.  Our goal is to provide you with the highest level of customer service and image quality in a caring and supportive environment.
